Review of The Mummy (1999) by Matt M — 22 Jun 2013
If Indiana Jones was the ultimate tribute to the Saturday matinee movies, this is the most loyal and most resemblant in plot and style. The story is very simple; a group of archaeologists awake a mummy that unleashes an ancient curse.
It's very entertaining and thankfully never submits to its special effects, though some are quite spectacular, and retains a vintage adventurous appeal. As well as that, Weisz and Fraser share good chemistry which, if not strictly sexual, is funny.
