Review of The Mummy (1999) by Adrian Z — 13 Sep 2014
The Mummy forgoes chills in favour for an Indiana Jones type adventure, but the results are loud and dumb as treasure hunter Fraser and amateur archaeologist Rachel Weisz find the cursed mummy's tomb, with tiresome consequences.
Fraser's comic talent serves the film well when it's used, but otherwise, there are far too many characters (weak stereotypes, all) senselessly running around much of the time, escaping a myriad of computer generated monsters and creepy crawlies which by current standards look decidedly ropey.
Jerry Goldsmith's bombastic score will have you reaching for aspirins by the time this is over.
