Review of The Mountain Between Us (2017) by Calvin C — 07 Oct 2017

Based on the novel by Charles Martin, this movie is Alive meets any Nicholas Sparks movie. After their flight is delayed, two strangers decide to fly a small plane to their respected destinations. The plane crashes and the two must find the strength to survive, all the while, falling for each other. There is no doubt that Idris Elba and Kate Winslet are great actors. I just wished they were given better material. This movie is your usual sappy romance. I kind of wanted the movie to focus more on their survival and give them more obstacles to get over instead of focusing on their romance. Any other pairing would have made this movie cheesy. But fellow Brits Elba and Winslet have amazing chemistry and they elevate a cliched love story into something more. By the way, the dog steals the show.
