Review of The Motorcycle Diaries (2004) by Oliver C — 27 Aug 2008
The story of a 24 year old Ernesto Che Guevara and his friend Alberto Granada's journey through South America is both beautiful and poignant. The story reclaims Guevara from high street t-shirts and trendy student first tastes of away-from-home rebellion by focusing on what turned the man from a middle-classs student-doctor from Buenos Aires into one driven by a cause for the rest of his life.
His experience brought out hiis values of humanity, social equality and a fight against what he saw as outrageous injustice. It reminds us of what 'admirable' revolutionaries are about. I've a couple of friends who told me years ago that this was special and I've had this film ready to watch for 2 months, waiting for the right evening.
I'm glad I waited.
