Review of The Motorcycle Diaries (2004) by Hansen P — 15 Dec 2009
TOP 10 FAVORITES OF 2000-2009.
#6 DIARIOS de MOTOCICLETA [MOTORCYCLE DIARIES] [2004].
Produced by Robert Redford and directed by Walter Salles ["Central Station"], this film was largely ignored by American audiences, and racked up some 30+ international awards. This is my favorite Gael GarcÃa Bernal ["Y tu Mamá También", "Babel"] movie to date. Set in the early 1950s, 'Diaries' is based on the journals of Che Guevara, Cuban Revolution leader, and tells the life-changing adventures he and his friend Alberto Granado had while traversing the South America continent by motorcycle. Thoughtful. Poignant. With quiet moments of awe. I loved this film.
