Review of The Motorcycle Diaries (2004) by Tae K — 15 Jun 2010
An incredibly powerful and in-depth look on how a 23 year old idealist and his best friend transform into revolutionary icons. As a 23 year old, this film struck me personally on my own life's purposes, causes, and hopes-and how I can make the world a better place, a more peaceful and just place.
And while Che is often overly idealized or villainized, he, played by the soulful Bernal here, shows us what he saw that led him down his life's journey. Crossing boundaries of physical (the beautiful panoramas of South America) and spiritual (caring for a leper colony), we see the passion to change social systems and our own hearts.
"So much injustice", Ernesto proclaims at the end of the film...and something that we can proclaim in our world even today.
