Supposedly based on a true story, this creepy adventure takes a Washington Post reporter (Richard Gere) to a strange little town nestled in the hills of West Virginia. Weird things have already been happening to our reporter, and he apparently has been delivered to Point Pleasant so he can witness even more strange occurrences.

An edgy, worrisome tone dominates the film throughout. We are scared to some degree, and intensely curious about how this all unfolds. But, in the end, I was seriously disappointed with the resolution. Sort of like riding a mild roller coaster that never even gets to that big drop you saw on the brochure.

There are decent enough performances by Gere, Laura Linney, and Will Patton, but don't expect the bang that you deserve for sitting through the first 90 minutes of the film.
