Review of The Mothman Prophecies (2002) by Tommy L — 29 Jun 2008
The nocturnal butterfly. In ancient cultures, the moth represents a form of the psyche, or the soul immortally trapped in the hellish death realms. Mothman.
This film is more of a thriller than horror. The film is all about trying to find the truth as to what is going on in Point Pleasant and the town itself is anything but pleasant.
The film is based on a book but characters have been ranamed and factions such as the MIB and UFO's have been removed for the film adaptation. But this film makes up for the loss of these phenomena with a very eerie tone. The Mothman creature itself, only appears once at the start of the film. This appearence is somewhat familiar to the first sighting of the Mothman in 1966.
The voice on the phone, the camerawork, and lighting are all well done in this film to make this film creepy.
Richard Gere plays the lead role quite well for a guy with only one expression on his face. The supporting characters are all acted well and help create the spooky atmosphere of this film.
Watch the film, read the book, see how it affects you on a personal level and decide whether or not the Mothman is out there.
You're afraid right now, aren't ya?
