Like many action movies lead by male actors, the plots usually tend to be the least important thing about them.
They are mostly an excuse to make the physicality of the protagonists' shine, as much as to make the action sequences shine.
In terms of functioning, that's basically all this movie has going for it.
It shows off its sequences and Jennifer Lopez's physical performance, but even though she's able to sell the badass character, on this particular occasion it felt like she was forcing it and if you take that issue and the constant addition of generic sequences and lame villains, The Mother is a disappointing offering that everyone will forget about before the end of the month.
