Review of The Mosquito Coast (1986) by Steven C — 12 Feb 2010
"The Mosquito Coast" is a lot of things. It's first and foremost a social commentary, but it is also an adventure film, a family drama, and the portrait of a man spiraling out of control.
Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and River Phoenix give phenomenal performances and Peter Weir does a good job of keeping the film personal rather than epic and distant like it could have been. This is a terrific film to be enjoyed on many levels.
