The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones should have taken its lead from the original story in the book, which was much more appealing. There were plot elements missing that were crucial to the understanding of the characters.
And where were the supernatural and fantasy beings that the book was heavily laden with? TMI has proven that they have no interest in sticking to the original storyline; therefore, I have no interest in seeing the sequel.
