Review of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013) by Steve W — 16 Jan 2014
I read the book first before viewing the movie, so that may be why I enjoyed this movie more than some critics. Its expertly shot, with solid acting from the cast. Everyone performs well, Lily Collins, Lena Headey, Jared Harris, Jonathan Rhys-Myers, they all ham it up in glorious ways. The camera work and cinematography impressed me, as well as some of the changes they made. The set design had a cool Gothic tone and there were a few scary bits and some good action scenes. Hopefully this will be the start of a new franchise, as I'm definitely looking forward to reading and watching the book and movie sequels.
PS. kudos to Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Kevin Durand's over the top performances.
