Review of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013) by Tvjerry — 22 Aug 2013
The writer of this series of novels (and this subsequent movie) is cashing in on all the fantasy tropes: demons, witches, vampires, werewolves. A young woman (Lily Collins) becomes intertwined with Shadowhunters, who are out to save the world…but wait, she's also torn between two handsome men…starting to sound familiar? The maze of characters just gets ridiculous.
There are some cool fantasy concepts and special efx, but the plot is cluttered and the action is unfocused. There must be an audience with the book fans, but for everyone else, it's just a flashy mess crammed with complications.
