Review of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013) by Katherine H — 21 Jan 2014
I'm not a huge fan of script writers ruining books I like. I'll put up with some small things, but everything in this movie was out of order or just plain wrong. It's only saving grace(s) were the fact that, had I seen the movie without having read the books, I would have liked it and the actors.
Specifically, Jonathan Rhys Meyers (primarily because I like looking at him), Aiden Turner, & CCH Pounder. Godfrey Gao was a good choice for Magnus, I think - if a little young and Jared Harris played Hodge pretty well.
I also liked the actors chosen to play Simon & Alec (though they are apparently not worthy of a listing here). I agree with other reviewers that the MOVIE was too "Twilight"-y and formulaic.
I admit, I even felt that way after the first book. BUT, if they don't continue to mess it up, the series COULD get better...maybe.
