Review of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013) by Megan S — 01 Mar 2014
As a fan of the book, I had high expectations for what is a fantastic novel. Unfortunately the movie generally stays true to the characters, but little to the storyline. The general plot points remain, just occur in a limited detail or incorrect order.
For a 2 hour movie I struggled to see where the time went. Critical links were missed or only lightly touched, if you had not read the book you would likely miss critical points and be a bit generally confused.
The themes were good but maybe some subplots could have been dropped to gain time on the main issues... Glad there is a sequel but hoping for a stronger direction. Harry potter is a much longer book but far better converted than city of bones.
Still entertaining if not a little head scratching.
