Review of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013) by Angela B — 06 Apr 2014
I enjoyed the books. The books are entertaining for teens and adults. Naturally, I was curious how the movie would represent the story. Of course, very rarely, the movie is ever as good as the book. They missed the mark.
Not totally, but enough. If the viewer hasn't read the books they might be lost in parts of the film. There are a few really cheesy parts. The scene where Clary and Jace first kiss is aweful. I think the actors have the ability to provide the much needed chemistry.
They just need a better written script and better direction. I have seen much worse though, and it was still mildly entertaining. They are making a sequel. I hope they do better on the second movie. They know that they need to hone in on what went wrong the first movie and not make the same mistakes the second time.
