Review of The More the Merrier (1943) by Nina S — 29 Mar 2009
This misses being classic screwball perhaps because Charles Coburn's character isn't coherent enough, or perhaps because, unlike a Preston Sturges Deus ex Machina, he isn't a Weiner King. Jean Arthur is adorably overorganized, and Joel McCrea is adorably disorganized- they are clearly made for each other.
Mostly, the movie is interesting for its view of WWII Washington DC. Oh, and Mr. Prendergast has the worst toupee in movie history.
