Review of The Monuments Men (2014) by Roxanne R — 07 Jul 2014
Despite the harsh critics, I found this one entertaining and educational because I had no idea Hitler's hatred of so many races went beyond annihilation, he also wanted to annihilate beautiful artwork to the point of issuing the Nero Decree.
We have a group of art connoisseurs called the Monuments Men tasked by FDR with going into Germany during the war to rescue art works from Nazi thieves and returning them to the rightful owners. "with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys - seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 - possibly hope to succeed? Well when there is a WILL, there is a WAY folks! Next time I look at the Madonna with child you bet I will remember that two men died to ensure her safety and my ability to see her at a gallery.
I think it is an important film to watch so you learn more about this part of history and the war that is not publicized so much. Recommended!
