Review of The Monuments Men (2014) by Gimly M — 23 Jan 2015
There is literally no reason this movie shouldn't have been fantastic. It had one of the highest calibre casts assembled, it's got Nazis, it's about rescuing some of the most famous historical art pieces in the world, it's directed by George Clooney, whom, though it's true is primarily an actor, has also directed his fair share of decent movies, or at least, until now has only released a single movie that was universally believed to be bad.
Now that list is up to two. The Monuments Men had so much going for it, but successfully utilises none. Like many of the worst films of the year, Monuments Men is merely a collection of variably valued setpieces and scenes, rather than an entire movie.
