Review of The Monuments Men (2014) by Scott W — 10 Jun 2016
Considering the subject matter and the cast, this should have been a lot better than it was. It's just boring. Especially in the first half when these people that we don't know team up and are just walking around the countryside.
I feel like Clooney sets up payoffs that you expect later but never come. For example, the evil Nazi who makes Cate Blanchett's life miserable goes out in a whimper and is never seen again. There are a couple good scenes here - the dinner between Damon and Blanchett and Clooney's faceoff with the Nazi general near the end.
But then it closes with a very heavy handed ending with a speech about the importance of art that we've already heard over and over. Just a big disappointment.
