Review of The Monster Squad (1987) by John David D — 01 Nov 2009
A 2009 Cheesy Horror Film-fest selection. The final selection in my annual watching of horror movies. This was a movie I remember watching as a kid a few times and liking. It's basically a cheaper version of the 'kids on an adventure" movies that were popular in the 1980s (Goonies, Adventures in Babysitting, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, etc).
This one isn't as good as all those others, but pretty cool, and scary for kids by today's standards. A group of kids that form "The Monster Squad" interact with Dracula, Sea Creature, Wolfman, Frankenstein, and Mummy as they attempt to rescue some sort of ancient amulet that has been stolen that disrupts evil spirits or something like that.
Both cheesy, scary (for kids), and entertaining as a piece of 80s nostalgia.
