Review of The Monster Squad (1987) by Sam L — 02 Nov 2009
Loved this a lot when I was a kid just saw it a month ago and still love it. Naturally, I might be biased with my review : ) ( I guess I'm still a kid).
The Monster squad is like the secret 7 except instead of fighting evil adults, the monster squad have tougher scarier, villains to face.
This brave bunch of kids are supposed to alert the adults to an invasion by the evil team of monsters lead by the prince of the undead, Dracula. However, adults normally don't listen to kids about serious world affairs, so the MONSTER SQUAD has to take over and start kicking monster ass and save the world all by themselves!
An awesome cast of monsters featuring The mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, and Gillsman( who is soooo out of his element).
For serious adults reading this, there are good actors and script in this one. The actor playing wolfman was as good as any "desperate, hanging on to his own humanity" character I know.
After watching it recently I just sort of noticed Dracula having a little to much blusher on.(Come on, it was the 80s!) fortunately he is still rather convincing despite that :) All in all this ain't no B grade attempt by any standards.
Ideal to watch with kids or at least the kid inside you! :).
