Basically the goonies with universal monsters in it. I guess thats the audience the makers were looking for goonie fans. Funny in places and actually pretty dark as well which only adds to the film (we all know when it gets remade its gonna be a whole lot lighter feel to it). Some of the monsters are a bit naff and the effects can look a bit dated but who cares when a film is this fun :-).
On another note seriously why was the cool kid even wantig to join the monster squad??
