Review of The Monster Squad (1987) by Hades N. Spades — 29 Jun 2008
Not a scary horror movie, but a cool one with a great cast, a fun plot, and likeable monsters. In Fred Dekker's terms, if you liked Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein, here's The Little Rascals meet the Universal Monsters.
What a genius concept that obviously found an absolutely adoring audience. Having a genuine cast and crew who obviously felt proud to pay homage to there child hood is a great help too. Duncan Regehr is also the most impressive portrait of the (legendary) Dracula since Bela Lugosi.
How about Jon Gries as the Wolf Man. In a word, IMPRESSIVE! I can't say enough great things about this film. It's one of my absolute FAVORITE childhood monster movie experiences. It would be totally sweet if they made a sequel.
HINT, HINT, Fred Dekker.
