Review of The Monster (2016) by Daniel D — 05 Feb 2017
I'd really like to give this movie more stars for the efforts of Bryan Bertino in making a unique horror film- unfortunately it's shit.
In this movie I did actually feel for the two main chracters- a mum and daughter- and the film obviously wants this because 1/3 of it is just flashbacks, another 1/3 is them talking about irrelevant shit, and the other 1/3 ( which really is less than a 1/4), is the monster wrecking havoc.
There is very little monster in a film titled 'The Monster". Although less can be more- proven in the likes of the Blair Witch Project and the Witch, there's effectively nothing at times here. It's not scary at all. That 76% fresh rating from critics is bullshit.
Also, whilst the Monster admittedly looks pretty cool when we can't really see him, when he's put in the light he looks fake as fuck.
If you want to see a horror movie that develops its characters for a change- at the cost of having an actual horror film- then here's your overrated piece of shit.
