Review of The Mist (2007) by Billys. — 11 Dec 2007
The only person who could make a great movie of a King book was Kubrick, and he changed the screenplay so drastically that The Shining became his own. The Mist is the latest and this time Frank Darabont comes closer than anyone since in capturing the claustrophobic fear of a King book, but it's the special effects in this one that cheapen the whole film and take away from the real story of people trapped inside a supermarket where evil lurks in a fog outside.
Marcia Gay Harden is impressive as a Bush-like fanatical Christian with delusions of grandeur who becomes more of a threat than the tentacled creatures outside. As unbelievable as the ending was, I did like the way Darabont didn't sugar coat it.
It ain't The Shining folks, but it's the best King adaptation since.
