Review of The Mist (2007) by David B — 09 May 2012
Suprisingly good film, this has what most horror's can't adapt and that's, suspence, thriller, actually Oh-My-God horror, weird creatures and very, very tense...not to mention the nifty gore when it's needed.
I suppose the film is really about human nature and how we adapt to things we can't understand, therefore turning to God, which does preach on nearly the whole movie but this is thanks to one of the main characters: Mrs.
Carmody who is played flawlessly by Marcia Gay Harden, who is brilliantly wonderful that you feel the need to hate her and makes you very angry of what she believes and does in the film, but this is what actings all about, she's so believable that you love to hate her.
Thomas Jane is good here, playing an average Joe trying to be a hero but like the rest, is only human. There are so many characters but are often killed off to early for the actors to actually delevlop them, but all the cast are great.
..along with the extras, making it more tense than the actual creatures in the mist. The special effects are quite good, though it's so foggy (or misty) that it probably saved them to put more detail in the creatures in some scenes, still they are worth the CGI they were programmed from, some tacky but mostly very good.
The film ends with one of the most horrorable (but not shocking) endings I've ever seen in a film and this is in a good way. You really feel for the characters and that's what most films should be about anyway.
Great film, please watch and enjoy it...also has some good witty banter too.
