Review of The Mist (2007) by Heath A — 01 Nov 2012
A truly frightening film that has the ability to cause some truly horrendous nightmares (as experienced by me personally). "The Mist", based on the Stephen King story, is graphic, tense, and well-directed by Frank Darabont. The low budget of the film is apparent in some of the film's visual effects, but the performances and overall theme and aura of the film make up for lack in technical provisions.
Thomas Jane is fantastic as the protective father. The lengths at which the film version of Stephen King's tale go show just how protective Jane's father truly is. The ending is jaw dropping in its impact, and quite literally one of the most shocking conclusions to a major motion picture I have ever seen.
*Stephen King himself made claim that writer/director Frank Darabont's own conclusion (which was different than how the book ended) was something that was more disturbing than he himself could ever have dreamed up.
