Review of The Mission (1986) by Anthony B — 14 May 2012
The script is uneven, and times the pace too slow, but a stunning film about a true and troubling time in the Americas and in Church history. DeNiro and Irons are excellent. Stunning score and beautifully shot, hard to be believe you are looking at film made in the mid 80s.
A classic in many ways. Was Oscar worthy in various departments. Sad at times, unsatisfying and tragic ending of course as most know. Worth having in your collection. --B.E.
