Review of The Mission (1986) by Joe H — 30 Aug 2012
Though historically inaccurate (especially seen when the Cardinal mentions the ruler of Portugal in the 1750s), still a great film. Definitely one of the best films from the mid-1980s. The acting was superb, especially by Jeremy Irons.
A young Liam Neeson also starred in this film, and although he did not have a lot of lines, he still showed his talents when given opportunity. The cinematography was stunning but that was to be expected.
After all, it is rain forest Brazil and who could mess that up? Great directing by Roland Jaffe, who I think would have won the award had Oliver Stone not delivered so well in Platoon in the same year.
Good story on how the Jesuits worked in South America. A film which must be seen by all Atlantic historians.
