Review of The Misfits (1961) by Michelle P — 12 Sep 2009
How sad that two great legends left this as their final film. I expected a lot more out of this story, as it was written by Arthur Miller who I thought had some talent. I guess I was wrong. It's completely cynical, boring, and depressing from beginning to end.
They start out confused, sad, empty, searching, and they end on the same note. The plot goes absolutely nowhere. Marilyn can't keep her clothes from falling off, and whoever was directing the camera decided just to zoom in on her goods all the time.
Gable looks like he's been rode hard and put up wet. Marilyn did show us more versatility in this role - anger, sadness, real emotion versus her usual dumb blonde routine. But overall, this movie was just crap.
Too depressing even for my taste. It did this cast no justice. I'm really disappointed.
