Review of The Mill and the Cross (2011) by Sarah O — 03 Feb 2012
Loved the cinematography and the staging of the shots. The story did nothing for me and I yawned an awful lot. Was entertained by Michael York, but would've liked more of him.
I guess I had some pre-conceived notions about what it might be, but there is very little talking throughout the film and what there is is almost unnecessary. I thought there would be more insight into each of the characters in the painting, but it's a lot of surface. The staging is subtle and slow. Each frame could be a painting in it's own right. Pretty but also pretty boring.
