This is one where my memory of it is better than the movie actually is. I guess there was a method to the madness on the forced nostalgia front.

On another note, this movie is a perfect example of my method for rating movies here. 3 Stars means there were isolated things that were good about the movie. Either funny jokes, daring action scenes, endearing characters, or anything else. But the 3 Star film never really ties it all together to make a cohesive "ride" for the film. Either that or it offers some things to like about the movie, but is in the lower class of a genre. The Mighty Ducks is both. It takes silly turns that don't make sense, and if you didn't play hockey as a kid (like I did) there are just way better kids sports movies out there. But, the individual elements that made up the movie were pretty entertaining.

On the other hand, a 4 Star movie is a consistently fun ride. The 4 Star movie has it all tied together using decent, coherent story. I think of The Mummy (1999), and Terminator 3, as classic 4 Star. Nothing approaching cinematic art, not even really a stand-out in it's field. But, a lot of thought was put into an enjoyable ride. With 4 Stars you might have to check your brain at the door, but the mindless fun is consistent all the way through a cohesive story.
