Everything about this movie suggests that it was made with complete reverence to a book I have no interest in reading. Cast and director practically scream at you: "Don't mind us, the book is way better.
" Whatever. This can be the only explanation for framing the film between long stretches of Elden Henson writing in his diary and narrating. The cast tries. Gillian Anderson is a welcome presence.
