Review of The Midnight Meat Train (2008) by James B — 28 Jan 2010
Has cult classic written all over it.
Part serious thriller, part strange, Raimi-esque, no hold's barred horror film, the latter being totally unexpected. I was not at all prepared for what the movie turned out to be but I'm kinda glad it did. It could have been another rehashed slasher plot but it becomes so much more.
Beautiful cinematgraphy, excellent ( if a little cheesy) gore effects but most importantly, a wonderfully original plot with a twist that you will never see coming.
It will be panned by most because afterall it looks like and is for the most part advertised as a thriler, whodunnit-ish type movie but this a horror movie by all means and it's an incredible one at that.
