Review of The Midnight Meat Train (2008) by Eric L — 05 Feb 2010
More gore than plot. The butcher is an intriguing character, and in the beginning you really are wondering how he gets away with making such a mess every night. When the conductor enters the scene and shows that he is "in on it" you do wonder what the purpose is.
The ending is anticlimactic, as we learn the train delivers meat to some kind of race of sub-human beings, described in some reviews as a reptilian race.
No reason is given for the need to deliver human meat, rather than something else, say.....beef. No reason is given for ripping the tongues out of the butchers. The conductor says "They have always been here" which raises more questions than it answers. What was done in New York before subways?
It's an okay horror movie, considering most horror movies are downright stupid and goofy. It will please anyone that likes gore. Worth seeing, but very average.
