Review of The Midnight Meat Train (2008) by Justin O — 03 Jan 2012

Well a very strange move by Lionsgate lead Midnight Meat train down a hellish release path- now finally its seeing limited light at 100 or so discount theatres across the entire US, and luckily hit came to a theatre in town.

Now to the movie itself, the story follows Bradley Cooper (wedding Crashers) who is a New York photographer trying to break into the big times, after meeting with a very important gallery owner (Brooke Shields) he is told to really push the envelope and expose the city in a way its never been seen before- so what does that mean exactly- it means getting as close to imediate danger as possible without being killed and having your camera to record it. After a subject of a photograph goes missing, Cooper's character begins to suspect the odd vinnir jones, a butcher who rides every night at midnight-.

Now since the movie is only a mere hour and half I cannot say much more without completely spoiling it, but as for the review, the film was actually a pretty decent horror film, with some pretty recongnizable faces and a decent amount of gore. Clive Barker's, who wrote the original story, based off the story of his by the same name provides a very eerie premise with some interesting twists and turns and really keeps the audience on edge.

At the end of the day, I cannot figure out why Lionsgate gave this film a limited run and a b-line to blockbuster...of all the crap that does see major release, I truly believe the Midnight Meat train would have 'hooked' an audience.

All in all- a decent horror film and thriller- worth the $1 it cost me to see it and the hour and half I gave to enjoy it.
