Review of The Midnight Meat Train (2008) by Kevink. — 04 Aug 2008
A fantastic descent into the nature of evil. This film is a dream come true, packed with copious amounts of gore, original kills, some very creative and effective camera work, and a story that, while good in its own right, is simply fantastic for a slasher movie.
Vinnie Jones is unnerving as the meticulous butcher, and he should go down as one of the greatest horror villains in a decade. The script can be a bit weak at times, as can character motivation and development, but on the whole it's easy enough to follow, very enjoyable, and drenched with tension.
Oh, and gore. Lots and lots of gore. Leon's transformation throughout the movie, even if poorly motivated, is at least very artfully done. Well worth seeing, and a crime to miss at the $1 price tag if you're lucky enough to have one of the 100 theaters nationwide playing this movie near you.
