Review of The Midnight Hour (1985) by Wolf M — 03 May 2017
Firstly, the movie. It is cheesy but fun. I am also pretty sure it was filmed in the Universal studio where the likes of The Monster Squad and Back to the Future were filmed. (Save the clock tower!!). It may have been a made for TV movie but it felt like a bigger budget theatrical movie for it's time. It has the 80's horror comedy charm mixed with 50's music charm. Similar to Back to the Future.
A quick memory recap:
Back in the late 80's this movie was shown on Cable TV (I'm from UK) and we managed to tape it onto VHS. I watched this movie religiously for a couple of years, especially around Halloween but then the VHS broke and we weren't able to watch it again as it didn't air again to my knowledge.
Then thankfully Anchor Bay came through in 2000 and I purchased it. It was between 1989-ish until 2000 that I hadn't seen it so I watched with caution, thinking it might not hold up. But it did. I still loved it.
Fast forward to 2017. I have 2 kids now and felt it was time to show them the movie. Not only did I still love it, both kids had a blast and loved it. After 32 years, this movie is still a huge hit in my house and hopefully will continue for years to come, especially around Halloween.
