Review of The Messengers (2007) by Jonathan W — 14 Jul 2009
Though the movie has a creepy feel to it and some good scares, the overly simplistic plot put the acting talents of Kristen Stewart above all others to waste with a contradicting plot line that though makes sense, is simply so unoriginal and basic that it would seem as if it were designed for a second grader to comprehend.
Throughout the beginning of the movie, with all the strange entities attacking only Kristen, I expected something spectacular, something deep and interesting and a unique motive behind everything that would leave me awed. I received the complete opposite. The movie did have something going, but then it was brutally killed with a completely absurd, and dare I say it, stupid ending. It was unpredictable, I did not imagine something so absurdly simple and unoriginal to end this movie, with the addition of the ending contradicting with the whole beginning plot. I was left saying "are you serious?" and "what...?" as the movie ended.
Severe disappointment is the best way for me to describe this movie. The great acting and some fair genuine scares were all put to waste and killed with this unbelievably ridiculous "you have got to be kidding me" ending.
