Review of The Messengers (2007) by Joanne K — 03 Feb 2009
Can I come out from behind my cushion yet? Another horror from the masters The Pang Brothers.... and this movie starts off with all you can expect from a well executed horror with loads of jumps, dark atmosphere and freaky effects.
The story seems to be panning out really well too - right up until we find out why the house is haunted and who is haunting it. What a poor ending, I was so disappointed with the weak 'old hat' ending.
But hats off to John Corbett, his character was very believable and was the only thing that gave the ending some flavor. And what's with Kirsten, she's in everything these days? Mind you, it's easy to see why, she was excellent in The Messengers.
.bringing her character to life, who is an angst teenager plagued by spirits. Worth watching, but it's a darn shame about the ending. It would have been far more interesting if John's character was a reincarnation of the murderous husband and if the haunting was a little more stressful and drawn out.
