Review of The Messengers (2007) by Allison M — 11 Feb 2009
Thing is, I was watching this and saw very stiff performances by the actors, overextended edits and brightly lit horror. Factoring all that together spells a Director who forces everything rather than shoot what transpires when trusting actors and technicians to work in the moment on film.
I watched the behind-the-scenes and lo and behold it was two Directors (alway BAD to have two Bosses) and the whole documentary was about how these two micromanaged everything down to eye moves and small gesters.
Tsk, tsk, tsk. To all Filmmakers out there let this film be a cautionary tale about how NOT to force a story to film. What is expected is never interesting and in film it's the unexpected things that transpire while shooting scene that are the most interesting.
