Review of The Messengers (2007) by Khalif S — 11 Oct 2010
The Messengers is a horror film that has received a bad rep. I don't know why. I found the film to be entertaining, and unlike every Hollywood film that has come out, it's not a remake. It's an original story written by the Pang Brothers, who directed the original version of The Eye.
The film is a pretty good one, not the best. But still pretty good. I am a die-hard horror fan, I love the legendary horror films, I am a big John Carpenter and Dario Argento fan and just to show you, I do recommend this film to people who want to watch a fairly decent Horror film.
I found it to quite in intriguing and relied on atmosphere and suspense. It won't be considered a classic, but it sure will satisfy anyone who likes original horror films. Entertaining, suspenseful and with a good enough story to keep you interested, this is a film worthy to check out.
Considering I love films by legendary Horror directors such as Argento and Carpenter, that just should say something that I enjoy a half decent horror film at times. This is what The Messengers is, a fairly decent horror yarn, that uses suspense=, and thrills to create horror, and it works kinda.
The Messengers is a much better film than what the critics have said it to be. After all, some critics praise really bad remakes, so who are the judges. This film is an original story, but I guess that because Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame stars in it, than people have it's boring and uninspired.
Well As a diehard fan of legendary horror gems, I can say without a doubt that this is a passable entry in the horror genre. There are far worse horror films out there than this one. So give this one a shot, you may be surprised at how good it really is.
