Review of The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999) by Edgar T — 20 Jul 2007
Excellent film with excellent pacing. Many people critisize it for being inaccurate, but I think it just brings about another way to look at Joan and her story. I don't feel that this film degraded her.
She is portrayed as a very strong and inspiring character. I'm pretty sure that there are many inaccuracies in this movie but I believe that all movies based on historical events have their inaccuracies as do the history books themselves and as its said, "History is written by the victors.
" so what's inaccurate or not can always be debated. Never the less, this is a very fine film. The acting was fine enough but I think Milla Jovovich did a great job portraying Joan Of Arc. The war scenes are fine though I felt that they were comical at times and I know that the directors weren't meaning the to be comical, and the pacicng was just perfect, I haven't seen many movies that so obviously had a beginning a middle and an end like this film; and I think that thats a good thing.
