Review of The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999) by Helena B — 07 Sep 2007
As if hyper-religious films didn't freak me out enough...then I watched this and became even more so.
Mila Jovovich is intense and plays this role of Jeanne with a sense of insanity mixed with fierce devotion.
The other characters are wooden and easily forgettable (even John Malkovich which saddens me). Dustin Hoffman is the only other character that I could tolerate. Action sequences are graphic but the real eye-treats are the visions and "visitors" throughout the film.
Oh, and never give a movie about French history to a French director...bias, bias, bias!
