I'd have given it 5 stars if it hadn't had a ruined ending. I understand there's no reason to take a real standpoint in the matter. However, this movie took the coward's way out. Basically, the first 2 hours of the film are amazing.
The rest is not so great. When Hoffman arrives, expect to be disappointed.
