Review of The Messenger (2009) by Francesca M — 20 Mar 2011
To the point, yet poignant message about the real cost of war. Delivering the news that no 'next of kin' ever wants to receive is surely not an easy thing to do. It's something the average person probably doesn't think about all that often, but the film makes you realise that "someone's got to do it!".
Excellent performances by Woody Harrelson and Ben Forster.
Also nice to see the love interest in this story is a believable looking character: anguished, fairly plain, widowed mother, with realistic clothes sizes, and not a catwalk model or drop dead beauty.
