Review of The Messenger (2009) by Brett H — 12 May 2014
Grim, yet interesting subject matter, The Messenger tackles a job that nobody wants and is elevated by terrific performances from Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson alike! Any/all the notification scenes are handled brilliantly and the many different reactions to the news is crushing and hard to watch.
The other aspects of the film deal with the PTSD soldiers return with and how they can assimilate back into society, which is sad to witness. The film loses a bit of momentum after most of the notification scenes are finished, but it is still a haunting film and the actors really gave it their all!
