Review of The Menu (2022) by Orukayu — 22 Jan 2023
An interesting thriller made in 2022. Some people are invited. The invitation was sent by a very fancy restaurant on an island. Guests are brought to the island by boat. The famous chef of the restaurant will present his new dishes.
The movie continued with a good momentum from the beginning to the middle. It was going well until the very last moment. But I think the ending was too simple for a movie like this. Especially the moments of acceptance in other people, not being able to find a place to escape on the big island, not even thinking of attacking with a fork in his hand, dispelled the tension in the film. Yes, there were scenes that would make you smile from time to time. People laughed. There is no such laughter.
While watching the movie, no island is the world, no chief is god etc. Things like that didn't even occur to me. For that reason, I express my gratitude. It was an enjoyable movie to watch to be enjoyed. But the end did not bring that joy to the top.
The plates and presentations are great. But it doesn't appeal to those who live to eat like us. The chief waiter woman also says to those who find it less "less than you expect, more than you deserve".
The thing that misled me was the perception that the chef's saying "don't eat" the food would be a chance for salvation, and that the event would revolve around the food.
There is no sex or nudity in the movie.
