Review of The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009) by Scott W — 15 Dec 2011
"The Men Who Stare at Goats" opens with the title: "More of this is true than you would believe." Unfortunately, the entire film suffers from finding itself caught between broad comedy and grounded satire, between hyperbole and the strange-but-true, between condescending towards its Jedi warriors and revering them; it's a confused film that doesn't always know what it's trying to say and never quite finds a consistent or entirely effective tone.
But it's definitely a fascinating story (and an entertaining one), and it's pretty perfectly cast--I just found myself wishing I was watching a documentary on the same subject.
